Regular light bulbs produce around 15 lumens/watt and generate more heat than light. The scientists at Luxim created a new incredibly efficient light bulb that uses plasma state energy to create energy. The technology is pretty advanced, but this plasma light bulb gives 140 lumens/wat, which makes it not only very powerful but also lowers the electricity bill:

An RF (radio-frequency) signal is generated by the solid-state power amplifier and is guided into an electric field about the bulb. The high concentration of energy in the electric field vaporizes the contents of the bulb to a plasma state at the bulb’s center; this controlled plasma generates an intense source of light.
